Bid to Play a success...
Winners of the Bid to Play game made up Blues Manager Phil Brown and Assistant Manager Graham Coughlan's team on Wednesday night.
All players were kitted out in Southend United's home or away strip for the 16/17 season before meeting their respective manager for the night.
Brown and Coughlan got to know their team a bit better in the warm-up and the players got to know, for the first time for some, what it was like to play on the hallowed turf at Roots Hall.
After warm-ups, it was back to the changing room for final instructions, before walking out the tunnel ready for kick-off.
The game kicked-off, shortly after the usual handshakes and photos, and it was Brown's goalkeeper who was the star of the first 20 minutes.
He was forced into three or four smart stops, which were to prove crucial as his team took the lead shortly before half-time.
After the break, Coughlan's side drew level with a ball over the top which caught out the high line Brown's team were playing before a tidy finish from 18 yards.
As expected, the goals were scored more frequently as legs began to tire and despite a 2-2 scoreline with 20 minutes to play, Brown's boys ran out eventual 5-2 winners.
The trophy presentation for the winning side and man of the match presentation concluded the game and each team then replenished with pizza and a beer.
Thanks to everyone who helped make it another successful bid to play game and the kits will be ready for the players to collect next week.
