Ryan Leonard spoke to the press following the 1-1 draw with Port Vale...
Ryan Leonard admitted Blues were not at their best in the 1-1 draw with Port Vale on Saturday.
Lowly Port Vale came within minutes of winning their first game in nine at Roots Hall but Anthony Wordsworth struck late cancel out Chris Eagles’ header.
And Leonard said afterwards that Blues gave it their all to find a winner, but felt in the end a point was a fair result.
“It was disappointing,” he said in the aftermath of the game. “We weren’t at it, especially on the ball.
“Our passing was nowhere near good enough to what it has been in recent weeks and we need to put that right.
“We’ll take a point but we know we didn’t play anywhere near the standard we know we can which is frustrating.
“We managed to get a goal back through Woody with five minutes to go which was massive and at the end we thought we might sneak it but all in all we didn’t deserve the three points. Port Vale deserved their point to be honest.
“We need to try and put it right next week now.”
The point keeps Blues in seventh place, four points outside the play-offs.
“You’re going to get games like that,” Leonard added. “We’re not going to play free-flowing football every week.
“There will be times when you need to dig deep and try and grind out results, which unfortunately we couldn’t quite do today.
“After going a goal down it was going to be tough; they were going to sit in and defend the lead.
“We managed to get a goal back and like I said we thought we could sneak another at the end.
“It’s not a great result but we’ve got to move on and go again.”
