Blues boss Phil Brown urges fans to get right behind the players
Phil Brown has issued a rallying call to supporters to be patient and get right behind the team against Oldham on Saturday.
Due to Oldham's good form, currently seventh in the form table since John Sheridan took over for a third stint at the SportsDirect.com Park, Brown expects the Latics to come to Roots Hall to frustrate.
And he hopes that Blues fans stick with the side at an important time in the season and provide full backing to come out on top.
“To say they’re battling relegation is probably a little bit harsh on John Sheridan more than anything else,” said Brown.
“He’s gone back there for a third time and since his appointment they’ve certainly had an upward trend in results, fate and form and he’s doing a great job.
“He probably needs another five points to get to the magical 50 mark, but having said that his run-in is quite extensive against teams in the higher reaches of the division.
“With that in mind, I think John and Oldham will be coming to Roots Hall to frustrate.
“I want to get that message out to the supporters that it might have to be a patient game.
“I want to get it out to supporters that we need you on Saturday. That’s the most important message I can get to anybody coming to the game on Saturday.
“We need the fans to get behind the players and the team because it’s probably the most important three points of the season.”
Following on from a massive win at AFC Wimbledon and some favourable results in midweek, Blues will be confident on making it four in four.
Brown said it will be up to the players and fans to bounce off each other and he hopes they will be in fine voice to push Blues a step closer to the end goal.
“Albeit everyone wants to talk about the form that we’re in, which is great, or how it could be four wins on the bounce, it’s not,” he added. “It’s about the next win, or point or points.
“We need the ballboys to be bang at it, we need our players to be bang at it, we need the supporters to be bang at it.
“There is no doubt in my mind that they are coming to frustrate us so we need to make sure we motivate the supporters and the supporters motivate us.
“It’s going to be a combined effort.”
