Team news for the trip to Bristol Rovers...
Phil Brown hopes Stephen McLaughlin will play some part for Blues this weekend against Bristol Rovers with Nile Ranger's availability dependent on coming through a fitness test.
McLaughlin was expected to make a return for the U21s on Tuesday away to AFC Wimbledon, however a minor setback delayed his comeback.
But Brown gave an update on the winger’s fitness on Thursday morning, saying that McLaughlin, who also spoke to the media ahead of the game, is closing in on a return to the squad.
“I often put players up [for press duty] that will be playing at the weekend,” said Brown.
“Macca wasn’t playing in the U21s and the reason he wasn’t playing was because he got side-tracked in training on Monday which set him back a little bit.
“It put a doubt on him for Saturday but if he comes through training today and tomorrow then hopefully fingers crossed he will have a big part to play on Saturday.
“Whether that’s from the start or from the bench I don’t know yet.”
Nile Ranger is another who wasn’t involved last weekend after picking up a knock leading up to the Port Vale game and his chances returning are up in the air at the moment.
“Nile’s doing a light warm-up this morning and if he comes through that will do a more rigorous warm-up and then hopefully throw him into the training session.
“If he does go into the training session and he comes through that today and tomorrow then he’ll have a part to play on Saturday."
Brown added: “David Mooney came through a full game on Tuesday along with Ryan Inniss and few other first team players so I’ve got a lot to choose from.”
