Relive the month of November as Blues entered the FA Cup and progressed in the Checkatrade Trophy, while Southend maintained their unbeaten run in the league, and completed a seventh year in November unbeaten in the league, with emphatic wins over Bury and Bradford.
Blues ended November in 10th place, thanks to their resurgence in form over the six weeks leading up to December.
Phil Brown’s side jumped six places in Sky Bet League One in the 31 days, which extended the unbeaten run to eight games stretching back to the 3-0 defeat against Rochdale.
That was, however, excluding cup games as the month began with defeat in the FA Cup away to Millwall.
Four days later Blues took on Stevenage in the Checkatrade Trophy and were well beaten as a much-changed side lost out 4-0.
Back in the bread and butter of the league, though, Blues were full-steam ahead. Nile Ranger and Simon Cox got the afternoon off to a flyer before a penalty from James Vaughan halved the deficit.
That Bury goal didn’t deter Blues who strolled to a 4-1 win after another goal from Ranger and a Stephen McLaughlin thunderbolt, which was nominated for Sky Sports’ Goal of the Month in League One and was a contender for Goal of the Season.
A week later Blues were once again in scintillating form as second-placed Bradford visited Roots Hall. A Will Atkinson double against his former side and an own goal handed Blues a deserved 3-0 win.
Rather disappointingly considering the form, Blues ended with two draws, at home to Swindon and away to Walsall.
