Ferdinand Hopes To Reap Benefits Of A Full Pre-season

26 July 2017

Ferdinand spoke to the press following the game against Brighton

On the friendly…

Pre-season’s about finding out what we need to work on and today’s exercise was something we needed. With less than two weeks to go to the start of the season we needed that [3-0 defeat to Brighton] and it will serve us better for when the start of the season comes.

On the new players…

The new lads are settling in very well, this group of people welcome people into the squad tremendously. There’s no hiding places with these group of players and the new lads have embraced it and done well.

On a full pre-season…

I've not had one for three years. When you get older you realise how important pre-season is. Before, I would breeze through it and if I missed a few weeks it wouldn’t bother me, where as now I realise how important it is. Last season I played 36 games without a proper pre-season, this year I’ve had a proper pre-season.

On a promotion push…

We’re going to take each game as it comes. We missed out on a point last season, and everyone was gutted and it’s down to us as a squad of players, coaching staff and as a club to take that hurt and hunger into the season, and make sure we’re not one point out of it and we’re right in with a chance of going up.

On Blackburn…

It shows how competitive the leagues above us have got and our league too. It’s going be a harder season than it was last year because of the teams coming up and down. But we have to concentrate on ourselves, we’ve got to try and win as many games as we can and the games we need to win to make sure we are around the top come the business end of the season.
