Blues In The News: Ebbsfleet United

24 July 2017

Reaction to the 1-1 draw with Ebbsfleet…

Southend Echo

AMADOU Ba’s well-taken second half equaliser secured Southend United a 1-1 draw at Ebbsfleet this afternoon.

The 18-year old trialist striker fired home in the 73rd minute to cancel out Darren McQueen’s opener to ensure the Shrimpers’ latest pre-season friendly ended all square.

SOUTHEND United faced their toughest pre-season test to date as newly promoted National League outfit, Ebbsfleet United, held the Blues to a 1-1 draw at Stonebridge Road.

Fleet Online (Ebbsfleet United)

Daryl McMahon will no doubt again be pleased with the shift his side put in and the workout they were given by a Southend team that contained two players not long out of Premier League football (Ferdinand and Kightly) and another who had graced Euro 2012 (Simon Cox).

The Fleet striker (Darren McQueen) kept the ball away from the covering defenders, rounded Oxley and managed to arrow a shot goalwards and into the empty net.

But on 73 minutes, Ba went one better and the goal was mainly of Fleet’s own making. Connor’s lack of options saw him hesitate and Southend Capitalise.

Ebbsfleet held their own against Southend United on Saturday.

Darren McQueen gave fleet the lead but the League 1 side levelled quickly.

Much of the match at Stonebridge Road was played in torrential rain but this was another good pre-season test for Ebbsfleet ahead of the National League kick-off on August 5.
