Simon Cox thrilled to reach 100 career goals
Simon Cox said netting his 100th career goal “fulfils every dream” after reaching the landmark in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Rochdale.
The striker coolly earned Blues three points with a well-taken chip over Conrad Logan into the top corner, deep into stoppage time.
And the 29-year-old was over the moon with the achievement and the way it came about.
“It’s a really nice landmark to get to and even more importantly it comes in the 93rd minute against a good team and one of our play-off rivals,” he said.
“It’s an amazing achievement.
“I dreamt about when or if I was going to get it, and it fulfills every dream that I’ve ever had.
“I’m just glad I’ve done it with this group of boys.
“We’ve really got a good bond going, so it’s a nice moment.”
The goal helped Blues close the gap on Rochdale to three points, but Cox said it was about more than just getting one over a team vying for the Play-Offs.
“It throws a statement out to the league that we can have a setback, no problem, and we will bounce back,” he added.
“We looked at the Sheffield United defeat and we were able to put our finger on what went wrong, why we didn’t play well and why we didn’t turn up.
“All that we needed to do was get back to what we were doing in the 13 games we went unbeaten.
“We had to make sure our attitude was good, our application was but that we worked hard and we did that today.”
