Phil Brown previews the trip to Peterborough...
Blues Boss Phil Brown told southendunited.co.uk ahead of Tuesday’s game away at Peterborough United that consistency is vital at this time of the season.
Blues have lost twice in their last 20 games and have soared up the Sky Bet League One table from the relegation zone to a Play-Off place.
Brown says a continuation of the form they are in will be important to achieve their targets this season.
“Amazingly a win at Oxford and you stay seventh and you get a draw at home and you move into to sixth,” he said.
“It’s just the way it is at the top.
“We’ve just got to make sure we keep our consistency levels the same towards the end of the season.
“The boys have got a tremendous return of points - I think it’s 38 points from the last 20 games with clean sheets and goals.
“There is lots to admire about what we’ve done in the last 20 games but I don’t want to sit back and admire that, I want to move on and I want to push on in the last 14 and see what points return we can get.
“All we’re looking at is consistency. If we can stay in the same vein of form that will get us in the Play-Offs, but it’s one game at a time.
“This is an important one with two away games on the horizon.”
Blues will be without Anton Ferdinand who limped out of Saturday’s draw with Northampton with a calf problem.
But Peterborough have some problems themselves, which Brown is hoping to hone in on.
“Peterborough are in a tricky situation with two or three key players out.
“[Anthony Grant] is out [Christopher] Forrester is out, who apparently they turned down big money in the January transfer window,” he added. “They brought in Grant who is a former Shrimper and he would have been desperate for the game.
“[Gwion] Edwards is out, so it looks to me as if he is lacking midfield options so it’s an opportunity to go there, buoyed by the fact we’ve got four points from our last two games and if we can get the win it puts us back on track.
“They have got goals in them. I remember going there last season and we went there with a clean sheet mentality.
“It’s the same this season, albeit I think we have more goals in the team.”
