Ferdinand on the tight-knit group and facing Millwall
Blues defender Anton Ferdinand says the team spirit in the squad is sky high at the moment.
It’s one defeat in 17 for Southend, but the morale in the camp has been shown in the celebrations of goals, the latest being Ryan Leonard’s last weekend.
Ferdinand said it’s a special bond the group has.
“Any squad that is successful has to have a good team spirit, has to have a bond and has to have a unity,” he said.
“As you see, we are enjoying ourselves on and off the pitch and long may it continue.
“We’ve got a job to do on the pitch and we’re enjoying every minute of it.
“We’ve got so much competition in the squad, but to have that competition and still have the same togetherness that everyone sees on the pitch week-in-week out and that we see day-in-day out on the training pitch, there’s nothing better than that.”
This weekend’s game against Millwall is big one for the former West Ham United player.
He added: “As a West Ham fan it’s a massive one.
“To go there as a Southend player and a West Ham fan, I’m sure I’m going to get a few jeers but I’m looking forward to it.”
