After three months working as a consultant, Steve Waggott will be leaving the club this week to take up the role of CEO at Blackburn Rovers.
We are sorry to lose Steve after such a short period but, of course, we wish him well.
“The timing of this changing of club is unfortunate as my intention had been to come in to Southend initially as a consultant with a planned review with the Chairman at the end of the season. However, the opportunity to join Blackburn Rovers as CEO is a position that I could not refuse” Steve said.
“The discussions with Blackburn began just before I joined Southend and progressed through October and November before the decision was made to appoint me. A great opportunity that I felt I could not pass up at this time in my career.
“In my time at Roots Hall I have been blown away by the drive, determination and insatiable appetite for getting things done of the Chairman, Ron Martin, including his exciting plans for the future and which I am confident he will deliver, with support of the Council.
“This will give the club the springboard it so desperately needs to allow it to grow both on and off the pitch."
