Saturday’s Sky Bet League One game against Scunthorpe United will be refereed by Martin Coy…
Martin Coy has never taken charge of a Southend or Scunthorpe game, making this Saturday his first for both sides.
Coy started his career just four years ago in the National League. He had been refereeing in the fifth tier of English football up until the end of last season, with the 2017/18 season being his first year in charge of both League One and League Two.
His first game in charge of this division came on 17th October, when Doncaster Rovers beat Portsmouth 2-1 at Keepmoat Stadium.
Coy’s last game came on 16th December which happened to be a League Two game between Mansfield Town and Yeovil Town. With the result ending in a goalless draw.
He brandished four yellow cards in the game bringing his total tally of cards shown up to 285 yellow cards and 12 red cards.
