History Books: Blues vs Bantams

15 December 2017

Historical insight into previous outings against Bradford.

Southend United have faced Bradford a total of 37 times due to a single cup game played between the two sides which took place in 1970. In total, Blues have beaten the Bantams 10 times, there have been 12 draws, leaving 15 wins for Bradford.

That cup game occurred in the English League Cup at Valley Parade and ended 2-1 to the Bantams.

The last time Bradford visited Roots Hall was last season, where two Will Atkinson goals and an own goal from Romain Vincelot handed Blues a comfortable victory.

Last season’s win was the first time Blues had come out on top in eight meetings. Before then, a 4-0 victory came in 2011 thanks to goals from Barry Corr, Kane Ferdinand and a double from Ryan Hall.

It has been 59 years since we first faced Bradford. The game was hosted at Roots Hall, and finished 1-1.

There have been a number of players to have played for both clubs. Tomorrow Adam Thompson will return to Roots Hall in Claret & Amber, on loan from Bury.

Will Atkinson joined Blues from Bradford in 2013, while Zavon Hines, Lewis Hunt, Nigel Pepper, Stan Collymore and Terry Gray are others to have featured for both.
