Jason Demetriou on the 'best team performance of the season'

Southend 2-0 Oldham 2nd December 2017

4 December 2017

Penalty hero Jason Demetriou gave his thoughts on the 2-0 win over Oldham, on ending Blues’ penalty woes and starting a run of good form…

On the win…

It was a massive win, maybe I’m wrong for saying this but I defiantly thought it was coming, because in the last two games we’ve been very good, and we’ve just missed out on the results. I think we played great and I have to say that personally I think Saturday was probably the best team performance of the season so far.

On scoring from the spot…

There’s always pressure with a penalty, but I think there was more on this one because we have missed four on the trot and they could have got us points. A couple of the boys have been trying to take the ball off me in training, but I put my name in for it after the previous penalty. When the chance came up I said I want this one and the gaffer said that I can have it, so I quickly grabbed the ball and set myself, and luckily the keeper went the wrong way and I’m glad that I scored.

On building up a run of form…

We had a team meeting the other day and looked at our targets and where we need to be, and after winning on Saturday we are on the same amount of points as we were this time last season. We just need to keep working hard and get that run going. We are more than capable of reaching the top six, if not getting into automatic promotion, because we are a good enough side, we just need to get people scoring and then we will get those results and win games.
