Where Are They Now: Johnny Herd

2 August 2017

We take a look at another Blues academy graduate...

Johnny Herd made his debut for Southend United away at Telford United, in the 2-2 draw in the FA Cup first round on 8th November 2008.

He was in the Blues line up for the FA Cup third-round game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in which the equaliser came from Herd’s long throw in.

It was inadvertently flicked on by Ricardo Carvalho for Peter Clarke to score in front of the Southend fans.

He was then released with five other players in May 2011 after making over 50 appearances at Roots Hall.

On 11th August 2011, Herd signed for Ebbsfleet United, and in early September he scored his first career goal in an away tie at Kidderminster Harriers in a 2-2 draw.

Herd’s appearances were less regular in the second half of the season due to the form of Joe Howe, and consequently he was released by Ebbsfleet at the end of the season.

Following his release, Herd signed for Bishop’s Stortford on a one-year deal on 17th January 2017 but moved to St Neots Town over the summer.
