Profiling Saturday's referee, Charles Breakspear...
Saturday’s away game against Gillingham will be refereed by Charles Breakspear.
Last season, Breakspear brandished 165 yellow cards and ten red cards.
Saturday will be Breakspear’s seventh Southend game that he will officiate, the most recent being when a 90th minute goal denied Blues a point against Bolton at Roots Hall last season.
He started his refereeing career in the Blue Square Premier Division in 2012 with his first game being between Braintree and Ebbsfleet which finished 1-0 the Iron.
Since then he has gone onto referee in League One and his most recent match was in Reading’s 3-1 home win over Millwall in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.
Throughout his career he has shown 608 yellow cards and 39 red cards during his five-year refereeing career.
