This day in Blues history
1987
Brentford 2-1 Southend
Blues had it all to do in the second leg of the English League Cup after a 2-1 defeat to Brentford away from home.
The Bees went ahead via Gary Blissett but Nick Smith equalised to give Blues something to hold onto.
A draw going into the return leg was snatched away from them though in the 88th minute when Andy Sinton applied a comfortable finish.
The return leg at Roots Hall was a six-goal thriller, but Brentford were victorious winning 4-2, and 6-3 on aggregate.
2007
Leeds 4-1 Southend
The first away game of the 07/08 season came up at Ewood Park against a strong Leeds United side who put four goals past Darryl Flahavan.
Adam Barret had looked like giving Blues a point, but three goals in the final five minutes from Tore Andre Flo, Manuel Rui Marques and Jermaine Beckford made it look a comfortable victory for the Whites.
2009
Wycombe 1-1 Southend
Jean Francis Christophe headed home on the stroke of half-time as Southend recorded a third successive draw in League One.
Former Blues striker Matt Harold was on the scoresheet for Wycombe after heading in Stephen Phillips corner but Simon Francis’ picked out Christophe for the equaliser before the break and neither side could find a winner.
