Alan Moody collection a huge triumph!
The Southend fans truly did themselves proud on Saturday with their response to the Moody Blues campaign. A notable contribution was also generously made by the visiting Plymouth Argyle supporters.
To add to the online donation total, which currently stands at £1,805, a total of £3,146.17 in cash donations (and a guitar plectrum) was received on the day, to bring the total raised in tribute to Alan so far to just under £5,000.
It is anticipated that there will some further additions to this sum too – a group of fans held a cricket match yesterday with a raffle held to raise funds, and an auction of a specially commissioned print will be announced shortly.
The online donation facility will remain open until the end of August, and royalties from sales of Andrew Leeder’s book ‘Roots To the 92’ - available online will continue to be paid to the campaign fund over the same period.
There was never any target set, the Shrimpers Trust were just looking to raise as much as they could to go towards the cost of a specially adapted car to meet Alan’s needs. However, this response has far exceeded any initial expectations, and we understand from a call made to Alan’s family after the game that he is overwhelmed by what is being done.
A great number of people have helped with the campaign and we thank them all, including Outstanding Branding who provided free of charge the t-shirts for the collectors on Saturday.
We salute you all, and look forward to welcoming Alan and his daughter Claire to our next home match against Rochdale on Saturday 2 September.
