John White Reacts To First Round Carabao Cup Defeat

9 August 2017

John White on Carabao Cup defeat, the change in performance to Saturday, and playing at centre back...

On the defeat…

It’s frustrating more than anything. We didn’t play our usual stuff and instead we catered for them too much and they took their chances when they had them and that’s what we didn’t do, which has cost us in the end.

On the change of performance from Saturday…

The first game of the season everyone wants to impress and we wanted to carry that on to tonight’s game, but we knew they would bring a physical, hard-working challenge, and the two games are completely different, not in the terms of one being a big game and the other one not, but in the way the opposition came at us.

On the opening goal…

Unfortunately, they took their chances when they came and we didn’t. Towards the end of the first half we created some good chances and if we went 1-0 up then it might have been a different game. That first goal is the killer, it makes it harder for the opposition to get back into the game.

On playing as a centre back…

It’s a more physical side to the game than I’m used to but it brings out the more defensive side in me which I think is my best, and many know that comes very naturally to me. Playing defensively is strongest part of my game and being centre back allows me to use that to good advantage.
