Phil Brown says the squad are right behind Coker following his injury...
The injury to Ben Coker has galvanised the squad, Manager Phil Brown has revealed.
Coker will miss the start of the 2017/18 season, when Blues face Blackburn Rovers, after suffering a broken leg in an U21 game against Colchester United.
And Brown says the squad are right behind the 28-year-old who is likely to miss six months of action.
“All in all it’s been a fairly successful pre-season apart from the injuries to one of the new signings in Michael Turner, who isn’t going to make the start of the season, and obviously Ben Coker,” he said.
“It’s been a disappointment to everyone in the changing room.
“It’s galvanised them, to a certain extent, because he’s an integral part of the fabric of the changing room and they’re all rooting for him.
“He went through his operation and came through that successfully and we all wish him a speedy recovery.
“It’s a time when he’s lying on his bed thinking he’s going to be without football for six months.
“With a bit of luck, these lads will pull through and make sure it’s sooner rather than later for him by starting the season well.”
