PREVIEW | Take play-off fight to last day says Brown

20 April 2017

Blues Manager tasks players to keep play-off bid alive until Bury...

Phil Brown says the only thought they have on their mind this weekend against Shrewsbury Town is to take their play-off challenge to the last game of the season.

The Blues boss believes the players can take a lot of ‘pride’ in the fight they have put on since giving the division a 12-game head start.

And before the final away day of the season at Greenhous Meadow, Brown says all they are interested in is keeping the target alive for when Bury visit Roots Hall the following Sunday.

“I think since game 12 and the 3-0 defeat to Rochdale we’ve embraced the challenge,” Brown said at his pre-match press conference.

“It’s getting to the stage now where we need to win both games.

“If you gave me the win on Saturday, taking us into the last week of the season for us to still get a chance of promotion, at any stage this season I would have taken it.

“Even at Christmas if you had said we would be somewhere near the play-offs come the end of the season I would have jumped all over that as well.

“If I could get a settled team at any stage of the season with my best players on the field I would have taken on anybody. That’s still the case.

“There’s a lot of pride in what we’ve done but there’s no sense in getting to two games to go and then not achieving.

“It’s important we take it to the last game of the season and bringing our best game to the table, both for and against, is an absolute prerequisite.”
