Blues defender looks ahead to Sunday's huge game at Roots Hall...
Anton Ferdinand believes Southend need to embrace the challenge that they face on Sunday.
Blues’ play-off hopes rest on Sunday’s game against Bury and Millwall’s trip to Bristol Rovers.
And Ferdinand said games like Sunday are what he and everyone else in the squad relish.
“The football gods have looked after us in the last couple of games but ultimately it falls on us and we’ve got to do our job which we haven’t done the last two games,” he said.
“The fact that we’ve been given another opportunity and we’re still in the mix, we’ve first of all got to thank the teams that have done their jobs against Millwall because without them we wouldn’t be in this position.
“Now it falls on us to win the game and then have our eye on Millwall hopefully losing or drawing.
“We need to embrace the challenge and the pressure.
“We’re paid professionals, this is our job to play in games like this. Speaking for myself, it’s the reason I became a professional footballer.
“The business end of the season is the most enjoyable because it’s the one with the most pressure.
“This week in training has been very good and as a squad we’re looking forward to Sunday.”
