PREVIEW | Blues boss calls for one last committed performance

28 April 2017

Phil Brown on the task at hand against Bury on Sunday...

Southend Manager Phil Brown has asked for one more committed performance on Sunday from his players.

Blues can make the play-offs with a win against Bury and if Bristol Rovers produce a favour by picking up at least a point against Millwall.

And Brown says he is confident in the attacking threats he possesses and wants his team to apply a clean sheet mentality on Sunday.

“Last year we knocked at the door of the play-offs but fell by the wayside in the end,” he said.

“This year we knocked at the door of the play-offs and are still knocking. We’ve got to make sure we kick that door wide open and the only way we can do that is by winning the game.

“The players are focussed, I’m focussed and I think the supporters are focussed.

“We know what we’ve got to do.

“I’ve lost a chunk of creativity in midfield with the loss of Anthony Wordsworth and we’ve got to make sure we have the right mentality and the right mentality is to get a clean sheet.

“We’ve got the best strike force that we’ve ever had at the football club since I’ve been here and we’ve certainly got goals in the team, so to get that clean sheet is the foundation for success on Sunday and then hopefully in the remaining three games after that.

“If that score line is Bury nil then there’s every chance that we could get to the play-offs.

“If we have eleven players on Sunday that represent the football club to the best of their ability, we’ll have a winning formula, a winning mentality.

“We need one more committed, nerveless battle on Sunday and if we come through it then we can walk around the pitch after in a good frame of mind because I firmly believe that we’ll do it.”
