Southend United’s Under-21s began their Central League campaign with a disappointing 4-0 defeat at Peterborough United.

After a goalless first half, Nathan Oduwa scored as the Posh ran out comfortable winners at the Mick George Training Academy.

The closest Blues came to scoring came via Luke O’Neill, as the winger hit the crossbar via a deflected free-kick.

Posh opened the scoring through Oduwa who finished from close-range after neat build-up play from Coulthirst saw him whip in a first time cross for his team mate to finish.

The pair combined again soon after for Oduwa to bag a brace with a not so dissimilar finish from his first effort.

A Trialist on as a substitute for the hosts netted the third, firing low drive into the back of the net through a crowd of defenders.

Coulthirst completed the rout in the dying minutes from the spot after he was fouled in the box. A cool finish into the left corner ensured the scores finished Peterborough United 0-4 Southend United.
