MATCH REACTION | Brown - Scunthorpe showing was 'unacceptable'

10 September 2016

Blues Boss reacts to 4-0 defeat at Glanford Park...

Southend United Manager Phil Brown has labelled his team’s performance at Scunthorpe United as unacceptable as the Blues went down 4-0 at Glanford Park.

Two goals in both halves succumbed Southend to a heavy defeat at the high flying Iron, which Brown said was simply not good enough and that his side must react ahead of their next game at home to Millwall on Saturday 17 September.

"Performance wise that wasn't acceptable or good enough." He said.

“The bottom line is we have to show a little bit more care and show a little bit more work rate.

“You analyse the player (Goalscorer Paddy Madden) who was supposed to be injured; his work rate and closing down was the difference between the two teams.

“To come here and lay down, which is exactly what we did, as a group is completely unacceptable.

“We’ve got to galvanise this group somehow, we’ve got to go with what we’ve got and try and turn it around on the training ground in time for the Millwall game.”
