THOMPSON | Shrews a tough test

27 October 2016

Blues defender previews Shrewsbury Town...

Adam Thompson is hoping Blues can carry on their impressive run of form against Shrewsbury Town at Roots Hall this weekend.

Southend take on the Shrews on Saturday 29 October (3pm kick off) looking to build on recent results, which has seen Blues lose just once in October and go six-unbeaten in all competitions at Roots Hall.

A 3-0 victory at MK Dons last time continued Blues' surge up the Sky Bet League One table, and Thompson hopes to carry on in the same vein this weekend, but warns that Shrewsbury, now under the management of the recently appointed Paul Hurst, will not be ones to roll over and that the Blues will have to be at their best to claim the points in this one.

"Last week was a great week for us and the club.

"The results were one thing, but we have put in good performances as well so they haven't just been lucky results.

"We've played well and we've grafted for the results we have got in three tough games (v Chesterfield, Bradford & MK Dons).

"It's easy to say it now, but I think this weekend's game will be the hardest out of the lot.

"If you look where they (Shrewsbury) are in the table, they will be grafting to get out of there, and with a new manager coming in as well, they will be desperate to impress.

"With us at home it may be easier for them to sit in where in the past it has been hard for us to break teams down, but with the way we are playing at the moment, with the hard work upfront and the creativity in midfield hopefully we can unlock it."
