Defender gives his verdict on the 1-0 victory over Chesterfield at Roots Hall...Adam Thompson was thrilled to mark his return to the starting line-up with a goal, a clean sheet and most importantly a win against Chesterfield at Roots Hall.
The defender smashed the ball home on the half-volley as it fell to him in the box in the first half to give the Blues all three points and make it six unbeaten in all competitions at home.
Now Thompson is hoping the team can take the same winning mentality with them on the road next week as they take on Bradford City and MK Dons, as he felt the side showed the quality that they possess in all areas of the pitch against the Spireites.
"It was a good team performance as we showed both sides of our game today.
"In the first half we were knocking the ball about really well with some great passages of play with Nile (Ranger) holding the ball up really well so I think the fans got their money's worth in the first half.
"Then in the second half it's not always straight forward, we had to dig in and we showed that winning mentality and clean sheet mentality that the gaffer has been talking about to get the win.
"Obviously when I got the goal I was buzzing, but after that I wanted to keep my concentration because it's easy to get carried away."
"But if you look at our home performances and results we should be up there really.
"So it's just getting that away mentality right, and even if we get a few draws and a win here and there, we'll soon be up there."
