Blues Assistant Boss on Orient win...Southend United assistant manager, Graham Coughlan believes the Blues are developing a winning mentality at Roots Hall following the 1-0 Checkatrade Trophy victory over Leyton Orient.
Tuesday night’s success made it three clean sheets for the season and five games unbeaten at Roots Hall in all competitions, winning four.
And Coughlan, praising the team’s quality as potentially the best he has seen in his time at the club, is now hoping Blues can take that form on the road this weekend at Rochdale.
“I’m obviously pleased with a win and a clean sheet.” Coughlan said, speaking after the Orient win.
“It wasn’t a great performance but it was a win and we look as if we’re building momentum at home here at Roots Hall.
“We’ve been working hard on the change of system to a back-three as opposed to a back four in the last couple of games and it’s taken a lot of hours of hard work and dedication on the training ground.
“So if we keep working hard at the back and holding the ball up up-front, giving the back three/five a release, we’ll continue to keep clean sheets if we continue to do that.
“We all love winning, the lads love scoring goals and keeping clean sheets and hopefully we’re building a little bit of confidence here at Roots Hall and if we can get that into our game away from home we should be ok.
“I’ve been here seven years, and I think this is the biggest, strongest and possibly the best squad I’ve seen at the club so let’s see what the next couple of months bring for us.”
