Full-Back discusses Blues form & international duty...Jason Demetriou is hoping the team can take the positives from last week’s performances as they take on Leyton Orient and Rochdale this week in the Checkatrade Trophy and Sky Bet League One respectively.
First up is Orient tomorrow night at Roots Hall (7:45pm kick off) and Demetriou, who will be unavailable due to international commitments with Cyprus, is confident the team continue their current form which saw them take four points from Oxford United and Peterborough United and make it four-games unbeaten at home in all competitions.
Reflecting on the 1-1 draw with Peterborough United, Demetriou said “I thought we had done well enough to nick all three points at the end, so it was disappointing.
“But we have to focus on the positives; we’re getting some good points now and we’re looking more and more like a good team.
“You look around and individually and collectively it is a good team here, so we need to build on this and work our way up the table, and with another three points, we’ll be right up there.”
“We know what we’re about now, and we know what to expect from ourselves every game.”
Demetriou, who has begun life well in a Blues shirt, will be missing for the next two games as he will be representing Cyprus in their 2018 World Cup Qualifiers against Greece and Bosnia & Herzegovina.
The full-back who admits he is gutted to be missing Southend’s upcoming fixtures, is hopeful to return back with a cup win and three league points in the bag.
“I’ll be missing Leyton Orient and the game at Rochdale, but I’m wishing all the boys good luck.
“We’re building now and the mood in the camp is really good. Training has picked up now and we’re getting results.
“So I’m gutted I can’t be there but I’m wishing the boys good luck."
