EMIRATES FA CUP | Memorable Blues moments

1 November 2016

We take a trip down memory lane and pick out some memorable FA Cup games...

2014 - Southend 4-1 Millwall

This clash between Blues and the Lions is fresh in the memory and with Friday’s game in mind, is certainly worth a mention.

Then Championship side Millwall were well beaten 4-1 at Roots Hall against a Southend side plying their trade in League Two.

Barry Corr opened the scoring and Will Atkinson doubled the lead after Jermaine Easter was given his marching orders. Michael Timlin made it three before Martin Woolford’s consolation and Ryan Leonard’s fourth which sent Blues into the Fourth Round.

2009 - Chelsea 1-1 Southend

Blues visited Stamford Bridge in the Third Round of the FA Cup and shocked Luiz Filipe Scolari’s Chelsea by earning a replay in the 90th minute.

Peter Clarke’s 90th minute equaliser to Salomon Kalou’s 31st minute goal sent Blues fans delirious in the Shed End, meaning a Chelsea side including Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, Didier Drogba and Joe Cole were forced into a replay.

2008 - Southend 5-2 Dagenham & Redbridge

Blues booked their place in the Fourth Round of the famous competition with a comfortable win against near neighbours Dagenham & Redbridge at Roots Hall.

Having beaten Rochdale and Oxford, Steve Tilson’s men then saw off Daggers thanks to goals from Charlie MacDonald, Simon Francis, Nicky Bailey and two from Dean Morgan.

2003 - Canvey Island 2-3 Southend United

A 90th minute Jay Smith goal sent Blues through to the Second Round of the FA Cup in a First Round Replay against Canvey Island at Park Lane.

Three years after beating the Gulls 2-1 in the same competition, Blues repeated the feat to reach the Second Round.

Tes Bramble and another from Jay Smith cancelled out Lee Boylan and Jeff Minton’s goals for the hosts.
