Smith eyes number one shirt

Blues keeper pleased to get consecutive starts.

Blues goalkeeper, Ted Smith has set his eyes firmly on the number one shirt next season after two consecutive starts in the league.

Smith was between the sticks on Saturday in the narrow 1-0 defeat to Bradford City at Roots Hall.

Despite Blues’ disappointing results of late, the 20-year-old feels stronger for the experience of coming up against champions, Wigan Athletic and the promotion chasing Bantams.

The young stopper also feels there is much to build on ahead of next season.

“We’ve got such an established squad, and we’ve got more than enough bodies and talent to progress.

“You look at the two teams that I’ve played and their big teams, so it’s been nice to be sort of chucked in at the deep end.

“It’s been a good test for me just to see if I can cope with it, and I feel like I have so I’m happy.

“Next year whether Dan is here or not, I’ll be pushing for that number one shirt.”
