Blues defender delighted to pick up the 'Champagne Moment of the Year' AwardWhen you’re a Blue through and through, to score a goal to help beat your closest rivals in front of bumper Roots Hall crowd is one of the greatest feelings you can have as a footballer.
That’s the opinion of ‘Mr Southend’, Adam Barrett who collected the ‘Champagne Moment of the Year’ for his headed goal in the 3-0 victory over Colchester United at the End of Season Gala Dinner.
Barrett, who has lead the Blues back-line in Blues first campaign back in Sky Bet League One, was thrilled to pick up the award which was voted for by the fans.
“A local derby with a packed house at Roots Hall, for me to score is fantastic.
“Obviously with my links with the club, and my affiliation with the club, to go and score against your local rivals at home in front of a full house - it doesn’t much better than that.”
An impressive season for the defender was capped off by signing a contract extension in March, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2016/17 season.
Loyal servant Barrett, who has made 341 appearances for Southend, is already looking forward to getting going again.
“Personally I’m delighted, I still feel good, I still feel fit so I've got a lot to offer to the football club.
“I’m delighted to be back; I love playing here so I can’t wait for next year.”
