White on Gills

17 March 2016

Blues Captain looking for back to back victories.

Southend United Captain John White is hoping the Blues can build on the Barnsley victory last time out as they prepare to welcome neighbours Gillingham to Roots Hall.

White, giving his pre-match thoughts at the Tiptree Tearooms at Barleylands Craft Village, is hoping to replicate that fine away day display on home turf this Saturday.

“The Barnsley result was massive, considering the run they were on.” He said.

“It was a big boost to us and I think we needed it to carry us forward to the rest of the campaign.”

“We went there and showed how resilient we are. We went with a game plan and pulled it off pretty well in a solid away day performance.

“Being at home again in front of a big crowd will prove another boost for us and give us another opportunity to catch up with the teams around us.”

With a crowd of over 9,000 expected for this local clash, White has called on all Blues fans to back the Blues with a carnival atmosphere at Roots Hall this weekend.

With much to play for, the Skipper says the players can’t wait for this one.

“They supporters are massively important in these types of games.

“We as players notice it massively when you have those sort of games where the atmosphere is created for you.

“It’s that 12th man on the pitch for us, and it will push us forward no end, so we need them to be loud and proud for us.”

“It is a massive game for us as it gives us the chance to catch up on those teams above us and give us some momentum going into the run in.”
