We take a look back at what happened when we last met Rochdale earlier in the season

LAST TIME THE TEAMS MET: Southend United 2 – 2 Rochdale
Date: 31st October 2015
Venue: Roots Hall
Attendance: 6,111

Following on from the 1-1 draw at home to Gillingham at the weekend, the Blues are on their travels this Friday as they make the trip to face Keith Hill's Rochdale at Spotland. We take a look back to the reverse fixture at Roots Hall back in October.

Coincidentally, the reverse fixture also came following a 1-1 draw for the Blues a week earlier against Gillingham.

It proved to be a game of two halves for Southend as they found themselves leading 2-0 up at half time. Leading goalscorer David Mooney put the shrimpers in front on 36 minutes converting from the penalty spot after Ryan Leonard was brought down by Rochdale keeper Josh Lillis.

Just two minutes later, Southend had doubled their lead. This time through Leonard after Stephen McLaughlin fed the ball into Leonard who turned and fired low into the corner to make it 2-0.

The second half presented chances for Southend to see the game out but Rochdale pulled one back on 63 minutes through Joe Bunney whose shot took a deflection on its way into the back of the net.

Rochdale then grabbed an equaliser with just over 10 minutes remaining. Dale's Michael Rose free-kick from 25 yards curled past the wall and into the net making it all square.

Both sides had opportunities to take all 3 points late on with Rochdale's Calvin Andrew being denied by Blues keeper Daniel Bentley. Then in the dying moments of the match David Mooney saw his strike cleared away from goal by Lillis.

From this match, the shrimpers went on an impressive run in the league remaining unbeaten for the whole of November, picking up wins against Blackpool and Oldham along with draws against Sheffield United and Wigan Athletic.

Blues: Bentley, White © (Rea, 71), Bolger, Prosser, Coker; Leonard, Deegan (Atkinson, 81), Timlin, McLaughlin (Worrall, 85); Pigott, Mooney
