Ahead of tomorrow's meeting, we remind ourselves of our last visit to Oakwell in 2007.The last time Southend United met Barnsley at Oakwell the Blues enjoyed a cheerful cup outing as they defeated their fellow Championship side 2-0.
Southend beat the Tykes on 16th January 2007; setting up an FA Cup meeting with Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in the fourth-round of the competition.
Captain Kevin Maher scored the first, curling a delightful shot into the top corner of the net from outside the box.
Daniel Nardiello's header forced a save from Darryl Flahavan and then Nardiello blazed over from a good position.
But Southend booked their spot in the fourth round after the break when Lee Bradbury collected an Alan McCormack pass and finished well from six yards.
Interestingly, Barnsley’s current Caretaker Boss, Paul Heckingbottom was in the side for the Tykes that day.
Sadly, the cup adventure was to end at the next hurdle as the Blues went down 3-1 to Spurs with goals from Robbie Keane, Jermaine Jenas and Mido. Freddy Eastwood netted for Southend from the spot.
