Blues Boss delighted with victory over BladesSouthend United Manager, Phil Brown felt his players did just what was asked of them in last night’s victory over Sheffield United at Roots Hall.
Goals from Tyrone Barnett, David Worrall and Jack Payne was enough to blunt the Blades and put the Blues firmly back on the play-off trail, moving up to eighth in the table.
As they have done on so many occasions this campaign, Brown’s players showed how they can overcome the very best in this division, and now the Boss is craving that on a consistent basis.
“That resilience, that grit and determination, that desire, all the things that I’ve asked for all season was there in abundance tonight.” Brown said.
“I’ve just asked the Sky cameras if they can be in town at Blackpool on Saturday as we seem to reserve our best performances for when the cameras are in town.
“It’s one of them where the players have to realise to perform like that week in, week out takes a lot of concentration, determination and commitment.
Phil Brown made four changes to the side last night with Worrall, Myles Weston, Will Atkinson and Stephen McLaughlin coming into the team. There was also a welcome sub appearance for Ryan Leonard after recovering from his knee injury.
And the Blues Manager was delighted with the contributions his additions made in a big win for the club.
“All the players that we brought into the side have certainly contributed in no uncertain terms to this win.” Brown added.
“It’s a landmark victory for me because Sheffield United are a big, big club.
“They average a crowd of 20,000, and when we went to Bramall Lane before Christmas you felt you were at a big club with a lot of history and tradition.
“It’s a big club and we’ve put them to bed, I’m not saying we did it in no uncertain terms but we did play well tonight.”
