Blues Boss previews Gills testSouthend United Manager, Phil Brown is relishing the game against Gillingham at Roots Hall on Saturday.
Blues welcome their local neighbours to HQ at the weekend, and Brown is hoping to take maximum points with plenty on offer in this one.
The Southend Boss, giving his pre-match press conference at the Tiptree tearooms in Barleylands Craft Village, said “It’s a massive game, it really is.”
“You’ve got two teams where one is going for automatic promotion and we’re trying to get into play-off contention.
“So there’s an awful lot at stake in a local derby match, so if we can get a full house with a great atmosphere and get a similar result to the Colchester game I’ll be delighted.”
Southend go in to the game on the back of a resounding 2-0 victory at the league’s in-form team Barnsley last weekend.
And Brown says that result has given his players a huge lift going into the business end of the season.
“The Barnsley result gave us a massive and timely boost.” He added
“You look at the two home games against Chesterfield and Crewe and I think we expected a bit more than what we got.
“Then you go into the Barnsley game where nobody gave us a cat in hells’ chance of getting anything and you come away with a solid display.
“I’ve just witnessed a training session and you can see the lads are really bouncing at the moment, looking full of confidence and looking forward to the game.”
