Blues defender extends his stay at Roots HallSouthend United are delighted to announce that Adam Barrett has signed a one year contract extension keeping him at the Club until the summer of 2017.
The 36 year old has played 29 times for Blues this season scoring three goals from centre back and helping Southend to 10 clean sheets.
A fans favourite at the Club, the defender has played 331 times in two spells club after re-joining in January 2015 helping Southend to a memorable promotion via the play-offs.
Adam was clearly pleased to be extending his stay with Blues “I’m delighted to be staying for another year, it’s been fantastic since re-joining and I still think I have a lot to offer.
“Obviously I’ve gained back to back promotion with Southend United before and there’s a huge desire in the camp to achieve this again, it’s going to be difficult but we will give everything we’ve got in the remaining matches.”
Phil Brown showed his appreciation to Adam, “I couldn’t be happier that Adam has agreed to extend his stay at the Club, he’s not just a fan favourite, he’s a Manager’s favourite, a coach’s favourite and a player’s favourite.

“He’s coming to twilight of his career but he still has a lot to offer on and off the pitch, we have 10 games to go and Adam shares the same vision as me to get his beloved club into the Championship.”
