2016/17 FIXTURES | Blues start at home v Gills

22 June 2016

Southend United face Gillingham at Roots Hall on the opening day of the EFL Sky Bet League One season.

Southend United will kick off the 2016/17 Sky Bet League One Season with a home fixture against neighbours Gillingham at Roots Hall.

Justin Edinburgh will bring his side to Southend on Saturday 6 August, before Blues travel to Port Vale for their first away game of the season on Saturday 13 August.

The following Tuesday (16/8) Phil Brown’s men will travel to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United as they look to go one better after playing out a 2-2 draw last season – Ryan Leonard scoring a stunner.

The first month of the season will finish with a double header of home fixtures with newly promoted Bristol Rovers coming to town on Saturday 20 August and Fleetwood Town on Saturday 27 August.

The Festive season will see Blues come up against new boys AFC Wimbledon at Roots Hall on Boxing Day (Monday 26 December) before a New Year’s Eve fixture against Charlton Athletic at home (Saturday 31 December).

Easter Monday has handed Blues a home game against MK Dons (Monday 17 April) before the final away fixture of the season sees Southend travel to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday 22 April.

The final game of the domestic season sees a reverse of the final game of the 2015/16 campaign as Southend face Bury at Roots Hall on Sunday 30 April.
