Ahead of their game this afternoon, here are details of Southend United's U18's latest victory.Southend United U18s secured second spot in the Football League Youth Alliance South East Conference after defeating Cambridge United 2-0 at Boots & Laces.
Dave Huzzey’s side recorded their first victory in four outings with the success against the U’s, which was sealed thanks to second-half strikes from Dan Walker and Renei Batlokwa.
Blues now complete the first part of the 2015/16 campaign with a home match against Milton Keynes Dons this afternoon (kick-off 1:00pm).
The match began to open up midway through the first half, Dias headed over when well placed to meet a Phillips free-kick eight yards from goal.
The opening period concluded with Southend pushing forwards again, and Bedford was thwarted by Macree in the 41st minute after latching onto a booming Bexon goal-kick.
The second half began in similar fashion as Blues tried to edge in front. Clifford and Phillips combined on the left-hand side to set up Bedford in the 49th minute, but on this occasion the second-year midfielder found himself denied by the woodwork.
In the 62nd minute, Walker finally grabbed his 16th competitive goal of the season. The forward made no mistake as he held off a defender to bring down a long Bexon kick and steered the ball accurately past Macree from 15 yards out.
Batlokwa sealed the win in the second minute of stoppage time as he beat a defender before calmly stroking the ball underneath Macree to make it 2-0.
