U18's Coach Dave Huzzey post-MK DonsSouthend United U18s coach Dave Huzzey spoke about his expectations of the squad after they were beaten 5-2 by Milton Keynes Dons in their final Football League Youth Alliance South East Conference match of 2015/16.
Blues took the lead against the visitors through Dan Walker in the first half, but they conceded three goals in 13 minutes early in the second period to fall behind and, by the time that Harry Phillips netted five minutes from the end, Huzzey’s team had been consigned to an eighth league reverse of the season.
The result, and the performance after the interval, left the Professional Development Phase Coach unhappy: “I’m a little bit frustrated. I don’t think the boys really lived up to what we expect of them today.” He declared.
Despite the defeat, Huzzey could look back with pride on a South East Conference campaign that saw the squad win 14 matches and finish second to Luton Town.
He is now predicting an exciting Merit League season for the squad as they take on the leading Category Three clubs in the south of the country, starting on 13th February.
“Taking what happened today away from it, I think we’ve made a massive statement this year, not just in the league, but as a club from U18s down.
“We’ve been superb in the U18s, winning the first eight games.
“We’ve been a little bit up-and-down since then, but I think that’s because our expectations are to win every game.
We go into every game expecting to win and expecting to perform better than the other team.
“It’s a credit to the boys that our mentality is that, because we really do rate this group.”
