Blues midfielder previews Burton Albion.Michael Timlin is calling for a ruthless streak as the team looks to pick up vital points between now and the end of the season.
Inconsistency has proven an issue for the Blues this season, who sit within touching distance of the play-off positions.
After two consecutive defeats, Southend will look to back to winning ways against Burton Albion on Monday night.
Previewing the game at Roots Hall, Timlin believes at this stage of the season, grinding out results come before the performance in levels of importance.
“Whenever you don’t get the results it’s always going to be frustrating.” He said.
“If you don’t play well and get the win then most people don’t realise how bad you might have played.
“At the end of the day the situation that we’re in now, in terms of how close to the end of the season we are, we need to make sure we get the three points however they come.”
With the game against the Brewers under the lights and on the cameras, there is potential for the game to be a cracker.
With the chance to show what the team are capable of to a mass audience, and a key opportunity to make ground in the league, Timlin admits the players are looking forward to this one.
“We’re really looking forward to the Burton game on Monday night.” He added.
“There’s a lot on offer for us, and there’s an added bonus with it being on Sky.
“That doesn’t mean that just because it’s on Sky that everyone is up for the game, we’re looking forward to every game between now and the end of the season.
“We know we’ve got a great chance of doing something here, which probably no one gave us a chance of doing at the start of the season.
“We want to now make sure that we find ourselves in amongst the play-offs because we know if we keep doing the right things there’s no reason why we can’t achieve that.”
The Blues come up against a Brewers side who are sitting pretty at the top of the tree under the management of Nigel Clough.
With both teams promoted last season, the pair prepare to do battle once more in a higher division.
Timlin was quick to praise Burton’s form this season, but firmly declared that the Blues are not intimidated by anyone this season, and on their day can compete with the very best.
“Burton were always a hard team to play against in League Two and they are again this season in League One.
“It took a while for teams in this league to give Burton credit for who they are and how they play.
“They do things in the right way, and they play with no fear so credit to them, but we don’t fear anyone as we try to make the play-offs.
“I think we might appear as underdogs, but people might fear us because on our day we are unbeatable.
“So we’ve got to make sure out the silly little errors that are affecting us all and make sure on Monday we get the points we need.”
