Barrett praises team spirit

Southend defender highlights togetherness of Blues squad

Blues defender Adam Barrett has praised the team spirit amongst the camp on the back of the team’s terrific form.

Southend have now won three consecutive games, and are unbeaten in their last four. The Blues have registered three clean sheets in that time and sit outside the play-off spots on goal difference.

After getting amongst the goals himself on Saturday, Barrett has highlighted the strong togetherness that is present within the squad.

“We’ve got a great team spirit here ever since I’ve come back.” He said.

“The lads are really together; we’ve got a good group who are hungry to do well.

“I think we proved that at the end of last season, how we stuck together, ground results out, and never know when we’re beat.

“When you come up a level you’re going to get spells when it doesn’t quite go your way, but that’s when the togetherness and team spirit really comes in to play.

“I think that’s what has got us the turnaround in results.

“It’s a game of fine margins so we’ve just got to keep working hard, staying together as we have done, and hopefully we can be in and amongst it come the end of the season.”

After a disappointing start to the calendar year, the Blues have most definitely found their spark once more.

Barrett, who has been the stand-in Captain in the absence of the injured John White, has stated the importance of maintaining those high levels of performance between now and the end of the season.

“We’ve been fantastic these last three games.

“The performances have been really good, and we feel we’re now back on track.

“The league is so tight, there’s six or seven clubs all within touching distance of each other.

“We’ve put ourselves in a good position, and that’s where we want to be, the players are confident and we’re now looking forward to the rest of the season.”
