Blues' left-back reflects on Checkatrade Trophy victory.Harry Kyprianou was thrilled to make a goalscoring debut in the 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in the Checkatrade Trophy Group Stage.
The 19-year-old, who joined the club in 2015, has progressed through the Blues’ Under-21 side to be on the cusp of the First Team squad.
Last night was a special moment for Kyprianou as he made his first appearance for Phil Brown’s side. The left-back took the opportunity with both hands, doubling Southend’s advantage after David Mooney opened the scoring and helping the defence secure their second clean sheet of the season.
Speaking after the match, Kyprianou said “I’m delighted.
“I’m obviously happy to score the goal, but more importantly for the team to get the win and the clean sheet which is always a good thing.
“There were times in the game where they had spells of possession but they never really caused us any problems and we deserved our clean sheet.
“I enjoyed it, I feel confident and I feel like I’m ready to play.
“It’s good for me to have such a great player like Ben Coker in front of me because I can learn so much from him.
“I just want to keep playing well to put pressure on the manager to give me a chance.”
