Blues striker looking to replicate Blades performance v Bristol Rovers.Simon Cox says he was happy to get off the mark for Southend against Sheffield United, but was delighted to help register Blues’ first win of the season.
Southend host Bristol Rovers this Saturday (kick off 3pm) looking to make it two wins on the trot and register their first win on home turf this campaign.
Cox, who scored and assisted two of the three goals on Tuesday night, says the players must be reproduce the same heroics from Bramall Lane to secure the three points at Roots Hall this weekend.
“It’s a good start. I wanted to be off the mark from day one obviously but it wasn’t to be.
“More importantly we got the first win on the board and I was happy to assist as well as get a goal.
“In the first few games we’ve been good in the first half and we seemed to not come out in the second half.
“Whereas against Sheffield United we felt because we had a comfortable lead we didn’t have to change anything; we could be a little more compact and not go chasing the game.
“We’ve just got to do exactly what we did against Sheffield United; it’s not about putting 45 minutes together it’s about putting in 90+ minutes together.
“It’s about the whole team performance, it’s not just about the 11 that play, it’s 18-man squad that goes, it’s every single one of us pulling in the same direction and trying to get three points on the day.
“We’ve got a home game now and we want to put our home form right.”
