Local boy, often dubbed as ‘Mr Southend’ is thrilled to be given the armband again having captained the Blues earlier in his career.

“I’m extremely proud to be named captain again.” Barrett said.

“I was captain during my first spell here and I thoroughly enjoyed that role, and it’s one I took immense pride in.

“John White has done a fantastic job, I’ve supported him and the Gaffer has now made his decision and I’m delighted to be leading the club and the boys out again on Saturday against Gillingham and I can’t wait to get started.”
