ON THIS DAY | Blues battle to draw with Bees

13 April 2016

Remind yourselves what happened on April 13th 2010 at Roots Hall

Francis Laurent was the hero for Southend as they twice came from a goal down to earn a draw at home to Brentford on this day in 2010.

Former Blues striker Charlie MacDonald put the Bees in front when he fired in low after 20 minutes.

Into the second half, and Southend bounced back through Laurent whose shot deflected into the goal off Pim Balkestein.

Carl Cort put the Brentford back ahead when he thundered in from 18 yards before Laurent slid in to equalise from close range to secure a point for the Blues.

Turning out for the opposition that night was Arsenal goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny who is currently on loan at AS Roma. The Polish stopper was substituted after the hour mark, and replaced by Nikki Bull. Also on show was AFC Bournemouth striker, Lewis Grabban.

An even more familiar face in the away dressing room was Blues very own Myles Weston. The winger spent three years at Grifin park before moving to Gillingham in 2012.
