Ahead of tomorrow's game, take a look at how we got on when we faced Wigan Athletic back in NovemberLast Time We Met – Wigan Athletic
Southend United 0-0 Wigan Athletic
Date: Saturday 28th November 2015
Venue: Roots Hall
Southend go on their travels on Saturday with the next destination being Sky Bet League One leaders Wigan Athletic. We take a look back to the reverse fixture in November where the Blues entertained Wigan at Roots Hall and were looking to build on their good run of form being unbeaten in four games.
The game offered few chances with the best chance falling to blues forward Ryan Leonard who's effort crashed off the crossbar from a Ben Coker low corner.
Blues then had another attempt on goal when Kevan Hurst's effort was blocked and fell to Jack Payne who tested Wigan keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen but couldn't find away through the fin.
Meanwhile for the Latics, Leon Barnett had a fine attempt saved from a Max Power corner on 37 minutes through a combination of Dan Bentley and Will Atkinson.
Barnett came close again on 50 minutes but Bentley again was alert to deny the Latics a lead.
The Blues continued to push to break the deadlock and came close through John White who's strike from range flew wide of Jaaskelainen's left hand post.
An attempt from Power late on for Wigan produced a sensational block from Adam Barrett to keep the Blues from falling behind.
It was then Craig Davies turn to have an attempt on goal for the visitors but he saw his shot after some neat play with Alex Revell go wide.
The dying minutes of the game presented Southend and Barrett with a golden opportunity to win all three points but his effort again hit the crossbar.
Blues: Bentley; White (c), Thompson, Barrett, Coker; Atkinson (Pigott, 76), Leonard, Rea, Hurst; Payne; Mooney.
