Midfielder previews the visit of Bradford City to Roots HallBlues Midfielder, Will Atkinson is looking to finish the season on a high and take some winning momentum into next season.
Southend United face Bradford City on Saturday in their final home game of the season at Roots Hall.
After a run of disappointing results, Atkinson says the players are looking to throw out the form book and get back to winning ways against Play-Off chasing Bradford, rewarding the fans for their unrelenting support this season.
“Our aim now is to give our fans a good send off for the summer.” He said.
“Results of late haven’t been too positive, so we’ll be looking to give the fans something to cheer about on Saturday.
“When the play-offs became mathematically out of our reach, it all became about preparing for next year, finishing on a high and taking that momentum forward.”
Atkinson comes up against his former side at the weekend, after making over 50 league appearances for City.
The midfielder, who will forever remain in Bantams’ folklore as one of their Wembley heroes who reached the League Cup final in 2013, is expecting a stern encounter against his previous employers.
“It will be a tough game.
“They are a difficult team to play and they’ll coming looking to go into the play-offs with momentum.
“We’ve just to just knuckle down and just give ourselves and the fans something to cheer about.
“After last year with gaining promotion, this year has been slightly different, but I think we can be proud of ourselves, and we’re proud of the fans as well so hopefully we can win on Saturday to say thank you.”
