Adam Thompson signs new deal with Blues

Defender signs contract extension until summer of 2017.

Southend United are delighted to announce that defender Adam Thompson has signed a contract extension with the club that will keep the 23-year-old at Roots Hall until the summer of 2017.

Thompson joined on loan from Championship side Watford in August 2013, with whom he has made 16 appearances for.

After his successful loan spell with Blues, he signed an 18-month contract in January 2014.

Thompson has been an ever present in the Blues defence recent months, and has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring twice.

The defender was delighted to commit his future to Blues.

"I'm buzzing to have extended my deal." He said.

"I knew there was an option for another year, and that I had to work hard to get that option and I'm just glad the club thinks I deserve it.

"Hopefully next year, using this season as a marker, we can kick on and challenge for promotion."
